As far as I know the right person for this question is Yves Yang

 

the project lead of VE and of XWT (the new Visual Designer available with Eclipse e4). 

But I do not have news from him for a while; I even posted him a question on XWT

 

 

but never received an answer.

 

When you installed on <=M4, was that just the 1.4 version from the update site http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ve/updates/1.4/?
