We too have the same problem.
To be precise, the error stack trace is enclosed below.
Please note that the same behaviour occours for each out of the three VE installations proposed at the VE wiki (http://wiki.eclipse.org/VE/Installing)

Hello,
I'm using Eclipse 3.4 with VE, but opening ViewParts and EditorParts doesn't work. I spent a lot of hours trying to fix the problem, but debugging a multi VM application with multiple threads is not easy :-(.
Does anyone have a clue, what might cause the occuring NullPointerException, or on which part I should concentrate to find the bug? It must be an incompatibility issue with Eclipse 3.4, I think. Does anyone know, which change in Eclipse 3.4 might cause this effect?
I really would like to fix this bug and contribute the patch.
