Did you try setting https://www.eclipse.org/tycho/sitedocs/tycho-surefire-plugin/test-mojo.html#providerHint to enforce a non-vintage version? Available hints are in the classes of package org.eclipse.tycho.surefire.provider.impl.

Is there already a way to get rid of the warning:

 WARNING: TestEngine with ID 'junit-vintage' failed to discover tests

along with the stacktrace printed?
