Hi,
I remember it was impossible to configure Apache Commons HTTP Client via JVM variables (see thread at http://www.mail-archive.com/httpclient-user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/msg02596.html for reasons), but log verbosity could be increased using the following flags:
-Dorg.apache.commons.logging.Log=org.apache.commons.logging.impl.SimpleLog
-Dorg.apache.commons.logging.simplelog.showdatetime=true
-Dorg.apache.commons.logging.simplelog.log.httpclient.wire.header=debug
-Dorg.apache.commons.logging.simplelog.log.org.apache.commons.httpclient=debug
-Dorg.apache.commons.logging.simplelog.log.httpclient.wire=debug
I believe, there should be similar parameters to decrease it so that you can hide the messages if that is what you want.
Kind regards,

This is related to the log level set for the Apache HTTP component that is being used. Maybe Maven related but not sure
