I'm definitely not asking for someone else to do the work, I know how
open source operates.
I'm not familiar enough with the problems you have already
encountered, and bumping into a similar thread on the maven list, I
thought I would send it in to see whether the ideas presented were
viable.
If I am going to look at providing a patch, I'd love to avoid pitfalls
other people have already found and to know their thoughts on what it
should actually be doing.

As you can see from a lot of my emails I'm not familiar enough with
Eclipse/Tycho builds to know what to do.
I setup the Eclipse RCP project 5+ years ago with pde-maven-plugin,
which was "good enough". But I'd really like to remove some of the
pain that process causes.
The migration path hasn't been as simple as I would have liked because
I just don't have enough knowledge about what I should be doing and it
has been difficult to find out that information.
It could just be our application is overly complicated compared to
most other peoples usage so I'm pioneering answers, but I dont know if
those answers are sane.
So I'd rather avoid wasting my time patching something that wont be
accepted and your time having to look at something that will be
rejected.
Or as others have pointed out, they script around the problem and move on.
