Sounds like a workaround, doesn't it ? so you mean there is actually no options to filter scm artifacts while building a root data folder ?
I should create a bugzilla then.

So you check out your source code, rm -Rf */.svn and then mvn install ?

I'm pretty sure I had that problem. I needed to exec an rm -rf */.svn after the target was built in order to avoid that problem.
