Re: [tptp-news] TPTP profiling initiative

I am the lead for the Eclipse TPTP project.

Help us make the Profiler of the Gods :)

TPTP is quite proud to be doing this initiative. Every Java developer should have a solid profiling capability; it is a core tool in any development environment. The TPTP profiler is shipped in some of our contributors products, so we are quite sure that the fundamental technology is solid, but we realize that there are some usability issues. We have tried to address many of these in the most recent Ganymede delivery.

Eugene's email announces an initiative by TPTP to get user feedback and incorporate it into the profiler to improve it's usability for the benefit of both the community and our contributing companies. We plan on doing two iterations of this for the Galileo delivery; this is the first one, ending December 2nd, 2008. By this coming June, we should at least have the Profiler of the Demi-Gods, if not POG itself ;)

I congratulate (and pity ;) Eugene for stepping up to the plate on this one. All of you who have done direct user support know the joy of having a good user to help you make the product better, and a poor user who quickly loses interest as he/she moves on to the next fun thing of the moment.

Eugene, I hope you get good users!

Hi,

The TPTP project is starting an initiative to improve the usability of the TPTP profiler. Within TPTP we modestly call this initiative POG (Profiler Of
the Gods).

We have addressed a number of usability issues in the most recent Ganymede
delivery and are now soliciting Eclipse plug-in developers to try the
profiler and give us feedback to improve the overall profiling experience.

If you are a plug-in developer and would like to participate, please reply
to me (Eugene Chan <_ewchan@xxxxxx.com_ <mailto:ewchan@xxxxxxxxxx>>) so I can keep you abreast of the
developments as this effort progresses. Those who participate can expect
enhanced support from the TPTP team in return for their efforts to help us
shake out the profiler.

TPTP has created a quick start guide:_
__http://wiki.eclipse.org/Profiling_with_TPTP_-_plug-in_development_

We will be doing support using the newsgroup eclipse.tptp. When posting to
that group for support on this initiative, please put 'POG' in the subject
line so that we may properly triage our community support efforts. This
will also make it easier for the community to find postings that are
relevant to this effort.

This iteration of the profiling initiative pilot is targeted to close on Dec
2,2008 so we can incorporate your experiences and suggestions into the next
iteration ready for the spring Ganymede point release. The intent is to
continue this effort on an ongoing basis, with each release being better for
the community than the previous.

Thanks for using TPTP!

Eugene Chan
