RE: [tools-pmc] Nexus Project or perhaps hosting micro-projects directly under Tools Project...

Title: New Page 1

I like the idea, but I'd like to convince you that the Technology PMC is the correct place for these very small projects. As you know, very small projects are hard to keep alive and thus the more turbulent and flexible Technology PMC seems like a better place for them. Every now and then (hopefully more often than that) some of the nano-projects will be seen by the community to be stable and solid and worthy of moving to the Tools PMC.

[kosta] So in the case of stable / solid / worthy micro-projects, do you see them moving directly under Tools project or do you think we need Tools Nexus and Technology Nexus? I have noticed that Technology contains some relatively mature projects such as ECF and EPP. Is the nature of the Technology Project changing? Nexus is similar to Orbit (in Tools) and EPP (in Technology) in that it’s not clear where it belongs.

Why would you insist that the nano-projects use the org.eclipse.nexus namespace? Why could they not have their own org.eclipse.foobar namespace?

[kosta] Mostly out of concern for scale-induced top-level name space crowding. Not a concern for you? How is the top-level namespace managed?

Konstantin,
I like the idea, but I'd like to convince you that the Technology PMC is the correct place for these very small projects. As you know, very small projects are hard to keep alive and thus the more turbulent and flexible Technology PMC seems like a better place for them. Every now and then (hopefully more often than that) some of the nano-projects will be seen by the community to be stable and solid and worthy of moving to the Tools PMC.

4. Managing org.eclipse.nexus.* namespace under which all Nexus sub-projects would belong.

Why would you insist that the nano-projects use the org.eclipse.nexus namespace? Why could they not have their own org.eclipse.foobar namespace?
