Re: [tools-leads] More on ... eclipse.org disk quota notice

Really? Not one project lead responded to my disk quota note in December!?
I hope that means you were all just busy, and not a sign that you just
don't care
about wasting resources! :) Or, maybe this list doesn't work too well? In
any case ...

Looking at the difference from Dec. to Feb., I think we can a) see who the
biggest disk-hogs are and b) have a reasonable idea of what a quota should
be for the various tools sub-projects.

I've opend bug 371496 [1] to ask webmasters to a) increase overall "tools"
quota to 35 and b) fine tune the reports and quotas so you each get your
own nag notes, not just one for overall Tools Project. Please comment in
the bug, especially if you really can do a lot of easy cleanup and
archiving to get your usage levels (and quotas) reduced.

I'm sure many of you have been getting these notices (and probably ignoring
them, like I have been ... until now!)

> 27 GB of space are used, and the quota is set at 2 GB.

I think it is perfectly reasonable for the Tools PMC to ask that a higher
quota be set ... but, before that, I wanted to be sure we are currently
being reasonable.

So, I would like to ask each of you to see if you can reduce your
"downloads" size any. Any old builds that can be removed? Any old releases
that could be moved to archive.eclipse.org? If you don't know about moving
files to archive.eclipse.org, see
http://wiki.eclipse.org/IT_Infrastructure_Doc#Move_files_to_archive.eclipse.org.3F

Seems the heavy hitters are ptp, cdt, orbit, and pdt. I know in Orbit we
are probably a Gig or two over what we really need (tracking cleanup in bug
366251).

So, for the top 4 projects (at least) ... please take a look, and reply
back here if/when you can clean things up a bit and what you think is a
reasonable allotment for your particular project. (You "lower use" projects
can too ... if you'd like ... but would not have a large impact ... you are
probably already doing a good job of keeping things cleaned up :)

I'm guessing the "right" quota to ask for is about 20 Gig ... maybe more,
but in any case wanted to sanity check it with you all first.

Please reply by 12/16 with what you thing reasonable limit is for your
project, based, say on "having a few releases and several milestone builds
on download site" (or, what ever you think reasonable criteria is).

Thanks,

8.3G ./ptp
7.1G ./cdt
4.9G ./orbit
4.2G ./pdt

877M ./ajdt
987M ./aspectj
462M ./atf
258M ./buckminster
452M ./gef

David,

The downloads area disk quota has been reached for project tools. You are
receiving this e-mail because you are one of the committers who has write
access to the project's downloads area.

27 GB of space are used, and the quota is set at 2 GB.

Please check your files and delete any files that are no longer in use
or are no longer needed, such as nightly, stable and integration builds.

If you want to preserve older Release builds, please move your directories
to
the http://archive.eclipse.org location
(Typically /home/data/httpd/archive.eclipse.org).
Please see 'How Do I?' section in the Portal for information (
http://portal.eclipse.org).

You can check your Quota status via the committer tools ('Tools for all
committers'->'Disk space/quotas')  .

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your disk quotas,
please send an email to webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxx.
