[tools-dev] starting an eclipse project

hey there,

i'm looking to build a few plugins using eclipse,
and just read a pile of docs on the 'official
procedure' for creating an eclipse project, one of
which was to email this list...hence this email.

anyways, we have been building an open-source game
engine for 4+ years now and recently the
discussion of creating a high-level ide for the
project has come up.  after experimenting with the
javasdk and/or mfc as the platform, i discovered
eclipse, which fits our goals perfectly and will
save months of development effort...

with that said, is there any real reason for me to
create an 'official' project?  i will be looking
to distribute the ide as a stand-alone product,
but i'm not sure what the procedure here is...is
there any need to register my project with
ibm/eclipse for this to get started?  i don't
particularly expect that anyone else will
need/want the code for the plugins' i'm creating,
but for what it's worth, they will be open source
as well...
