Regarding your suggestion, this wasn't part of the original requirement for this enhancement.  I'll need to discuss it with our modelling team before making any changes.  Feel free to file an enhancement for this.

A better solution is to use the <<BaseType>> stereotype to automatically import as a Datatype.

Is there a way to call that from a program?

In fact, we would like to do this conversion while doing the SID Import (based on the UML import).
