Ah, cool. Yes, that’s what I was wondering, if the System Management view was a common navigator. I’m sure we had that conversation a few years ago :).
And, no, I don’t want to see targets in the project explorer. That’s what our IDE does now and it’s just confusing.
Thanks! I’ll keep our investigation going.
Doug.
Hi Doug,
The “System Management” view is a Common Navigator. In the same way the “Project Explorer” is. There is no “Common Navigator” view in Eclipse, it’s
a framework to base on to build extensible views.
If your question is why we didn’t added targets, processes and file system browsing to the “Project Explorer”, the answer is “Because it does not
belong there.”.
But we are not telling anyone here where to put things, we can open up possibilities only. If putting things into the “Project Explorer” is more valuable
for your workflows, feel free to do so. But if you prefer to have a common place everyone is putting in their targets, discovered or manually created, naturally, the “System Management” view is our preference for such a place.
Best regards, Uwe

I’ve started looking for a replacement for our custom target management system, and UI in particular. Having some input into the early days of the Target Explorer,
I naturally came there. The interface, mind you, is a lot more generic than I had thought. If we’re being that generic, I was wondering why we didn’t go with the Common Navigator and just plug in target type things into one of those. Thoughts?
