[tcf-dev] TCF 1.2 planning

Hi all,

We are asked by the Eclipse foundation to declare our intent participating in next year’s “Luna” simultaneous release (June 2014).

This opens 3 questions,

-          Timing: shall we release 1.2 in June 2014 or will we potentially want an official release earlier ?

-          Compatibility: shall we plan for a backward compatible 1.2 release or do we anticipate any need breaking API ?

-          Content: Our communities will appreciate any declaration of intent regarding what we want to do next year; planning helps our adoption.

I have created a draft plan with some ideas for our 1.2 release from my point of view:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/TCF/DraftPlan12

These ideas are certainly more than we can commit to in the coming year, but I wanted to get the discussion started. The “timing” and “compatibility” questions are important to agree on, so please speak up now if you need anything different than an 1.2 release in June 2014. The “content” question is more flexible. None of our plans need to be set in stone, but I would like to declare some intent to give our adopters a hilevel idea of where we’re heading.

Please review the plan and let me know (a) if I’ve forgotten any idea that you would consider working on, (b) any inaccuracies or omissions in what I’ve put together, and (c) which of the ideas you find most relevant.

See below forwarded message how CDT has declared their intentions for now, for your reference.

Many thanks !

Martin

Subject: [cross-project-issues-dev] CDT in Luna

CDT will be participating in the Luna simrel. Offset is kinda +1 although we have a tiny bit that depends on RSE but it seems to work out in the end.

Now to be weird, we are releasing CDT 8.3 with Kepler SR-2 but it will also appear on Luna milestones. We will then transition to CDT 8.4 for the final Luna release.

Plans are here:

Mind you we probably won't know the 8.4 plan until near the end of 8.3. And we don't really have an 8.3 plan yet. We are transitioning to release a minor release every SR starting with the 8.3 release.

Doug.
