STEM Community Call December 5, 2013

On Call: Jamie, Chris, Marcus, Matthias, Stefan, Judy

1. STEM 2.0.1 was planned for 12/11, but no bugs have been found to date

Need more time to prepare new version

Agreed: Slip date to 1/23/2014

2.0 is now available
All downloadable scenarios have been migrated (thanks, Stefan)

Mega data has been updated (again, thanks to Stefan)

Problem w/ stalling when step size got small has been resolved (Matt’s)

Jamie: Was a consequence of a defect in the model, has fixed to throw an exception so it won’t stall Stefan: Fixed scenario with problem on website

2. New Doc/New Demos for 2.0.1

TO DO: Update dengue
Jamie: Probably no new demos for 2.0.1; will keep wish list for future

3. Bug(s) of the week: No new status
400930 Deleting a graph makes models/scenario useless. NOT A BUG. DEFFERED

TO DO: Chris will study how to handle, then place on agenda for discussion
409742 Mercator Map Logger does not export images with black borders. DEFERRED

TO DO: Discuss when Matt is on call
368889 For M5: Enable stochastic simulations for older disease models. DONE W/ ONE EXCEPTION

TO DO: Dengue. DEFERRED UNTIL KUN RETURNS

4. Feature Requests
Generalize Predicate to read discrete events from a file based a schedule (Matthias)

In project work queue

5. Items from Participants

Werner (not on call): Opportunities w/ Science WG. DEFERRED

Chris: Report on Eclipse Conference in Germany

Attendees @ his paper interested in STEM tools, but none doing epi; attendees @ Science WG meeting interested in features like plotting and 2/3D data processing; group has mailing list (Jamie has joined list)

Stefan: Report on Epidemics Conference in @ Amsterdam

Presented two posters. Attendees interested in STEM uses; person from Tropical Institute in London (met last summer) agreed on technical limitation w/ measles model; lots of interested in dengue fever this year, how bacteria can reduce effective #

Stefan: EclipseCon talk rejected as trying to do too much, e.g., talking about xtext, etc.

Chris: Impression is that software developers use tools from others

Chris: Introduced Marcus, 2014 intern @ BfR, doing master’s thesis. Plans to use STEM framework to develop a small web-based tool that allows producers to put delivery info into integrated system, get feedback in a ready-to-use tool; maybe work on Chris’s feature request for integrating specific events

DISCUSSION: An exciting project. If to be available through Eclipse, need to discuss/define issues of (1) project administration, (2) software architecture/design, (3) Eclipse process, (4) the build

TO DO: Discuss further and look @ all factors—necessary approvals, roles
