[stem-dev] STEM Community Call April 21, 2011

STEM Community Call April 21, 2011

On the call: Jamie, Matthias, Jan, Stefan, Matt, Bryan, Judy

next call will be thursday, april 28, at 9 am pacific daylight time

Topics of the Week

Release date for 1.2 set for 4/29

·         Meta data updated in RC 3

Release Candidate available

·         Jan-Frederick is checking in some items for Graphical Editor now

·         Stefan will touch base with Yossi

·          Yossi will build over the week

·         To be posted Monday, April 25: Release Candidate 4 for Version 1.2 available for testing (Judy)

Update on Feature Build, use of new data plugins

·         To address problems (for us and Eclipse) with the size Earth Science data adds to the download package, working to make it possible to go in and download additional options as features

·         Changes (largely to STEM build process) will offer a well defined way of distributing new static data after the fact as needed (STEM doesn’t need Earth Science data for flu, does for malaria);  will keep size of STEM distribution stable

·         Ready for next release, possibly extensible to, e.g., plugin on cattle feeding stations in Europe, perhaps automatic download; definitely automatic updates

·         Matt: trying to do this without changes to what we are already doing

Update on Earth Science data v2

·         Jan is running simulation with the mosquito model; will submit a patch for 2009 ; creating different field for different values in data set; will update wiki (existing page)

·          Restructure or rename? Divide data by years, put in folder so can use all or some; edit current downloadable scenarios

·         Make changes now; put warning on newsgroup

Future Release Schedule (discussion reflected in items below)

V1.2.1

Date: 7/31/2011

Features

ü  Bug Fixes from V1.2

ü  New Earth Science Data (2009): new data, names changes, updated classes (not feature or build process); updated documentation

ü  Process for translating external data into STEM format data (code to create the Earth Science data) for others to be packaged, put in STEM utilities; documentation

ü  Geographical shape file import utility; Marcus is working on this, has to change library due to issues with license; Marcus needs to complete an individual contributor agreement w/ Eclipse; documentation

ü  Updated interventions: triggers, predicates, modifiers; updated documentation

V1.3.0

Date: 10/31/2011

Features

ü  Graphical Editor v2

ü  Earth Science Data 10 years available as Features

ü  Matt: Running distributed STEM

ü  Matthias: Food modeling plugin or project importer for integration of external disease models.Discussion: Matthias using different software on processes during food production involved in transmitting disease via food to humans; wants to integrate with multi-population model to create model parameters for STEM). Jamie suggests looking at External Data Source Disease Model, would have to be generalized to a multi-population model. Matthias might consider providing some spreadsheets or sample data sheets, possible feature.

ü  Jamie: How to add a social network graph to a single node—leverage internal work at IBM.

ü  Matthias: Documentation—click on button when finishing a simulation to document everything in a user friendly way, provide data for report. Jamie: look at Automated Experiment as base

ü  Matthias: Sensitivity analysis—which elements have impact. Discussion: Jamie—look at Nelder Mead

ü  Automatic Report Generator ;Right click on scenario, get every parameter stored with the data; Matthias will restart this discussion on the Newsgroup

V1.3.1

Date: 1/1/2012

Features

ü  Bug Fixes

Update from Students

·         Bryan: Will talk with Justin, probably will opt to update UI; will keep Jamie posted

·         Jamie to Bryan and Justin: Go to the project page, plan on left, and highlight their valuable contributions

Items from Participants

Matthias: Report from Jan-Frederick (additions to Release Candidate—labels, unit test, wiki tutorial, editor after saving; Visit from Eclipse; Issues regarding IP log discussed (shows only committers; cannot be retroactive prior to committer status; will ask his team to update their Eclipse profiles so their affiliation status. Per Jamie: input will show for any change, CQ triggers review by Eclipse lawyers
