[stem-dev] STEM Call Jan 26, 2011

01/26/2011

Task and Documentation Tracking

On call: Jamie, Jan, Matt, Stefan, Arik, Werner

ALL: THE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE CALL IN NUMBER WILL BE RESOLVED AND NEW NUMBERS EMAILED TO YOU BEFORE NEXT WEEK’S CALL

STEM Release 1.1.1

·         Release 1.1.1 is up

·         Items will be posted on Newsgroup and website; Stefan to send items to Judy to post (Documentation)

Possible STEM Workshop or Symposium

·         Jamie met with Werner and Mike M. to discuss

·         Venue in Europe at EclipseCon November 2011 or 2012

·         Eclipse will arrange/pay for room; no money for travel

·         Workshop more informal; symposium more formal with invited papers

·         Jan: 2011 workshop better for him

·         Jamie will send Judy info to post on Newsgroup to start discussion

·         Will revisit during next week’s call, figure who might attend, etc.

·         Need to let Eclipse know by June

Process for New Committers

·         A democratic process: existing committers can nominate, vote on new committers

·         Should nominate contributors (e.g., Armin) to become committers

Graphical Editor (Jan)

·         Will discuss following this call (long, technical, can stay on if wish)

·         Jamie: Thanks to Jan for his contribution!

New UI for Automated Experiment

·         Use to fit to reference data; have had since 1.1 release

·         Now in toolbar to help set parameters

·         Will highlight as feature for Release 1.2; will need documentation (Judy to track) (Documentation)

Global Meshing Algorithms

·         Need for countries like Congo that have no subdivisions, look like black hole

·         Can access LandScan documentation associated with our labels to yield higher spatial resolution

·         Note: Data must be available for distribution under the Eclipse Public License (EPL)

·         Jan: Make this automatic? Jamie: We do the preprocessing as with Congo; this allowed under LandScan agreement (but can’t release their data)

·         Jamie: Make meshing algorithm available as a tool?

·         Werner will investigate possible contacts with access to higher resolution maps of Congo that could be made available under the EPL

Items from Participants

·         Judy: Will work with Sondra and Jamie on AMIA proposal; Will send Jamie and Arik specs for graphics for PLoS One

·         Arik: Reported on talk by Ben Rice at Haifa lab on Healthmaps.org; will consider inviting him to join STEM call; will followup on feedback on email request re Africa data

·         Jamie: Thanks to Arik for revisions on mosquito paper; Dan gave us contact in Australia who may join call next week; interested in using STEM to model TB
