[stem-dev] Notes from the STEM Team Call

09/08/2010

Task and Documentation Tracking

On call: Jamie, Matt, Dave, Traci, Greg, Dan, Mattias, Stefan, Werner

New to call: Tero Perviaianen, Tom Waraporn

Introductions

Tero Perviaianen

·         Software developer in Helsinki, Finland (web, java, back and front end); developed zombie pandemic model using STEM

Tom Waraporn

·         Visiting scientist from Thailand now at Almaden, interested in mapping

Release 1.1.0 planning

·         Need to resolve legal issues before releasing Mattias’ patch; will pull from this release and repository; will include in next release after legalities have been addressed

·         Tero may check w/ his employer to confirm he can contribute; Jamie will send him Eclipse public license

·         Project Metadata has changed; no items for IP review

Automated Experiment example

·         Examples available for download, also video

·         Release will include Automated Experiments feature

·         Tutorial now on wiki

Server-side development

·         Discussion ongoing between Matt and Tero

·         Matt: Have prototype, real time view, direct to simulation services; want to take forward; two areas under review

·         Distributed services (how to move data between multiple machines). Tero: has looked at using CDO. Dan: has used CDO, would be slower but is answer for scalability, reconfigures EMF, regenerates code, all reflective; more than one machine can access. Jamie: whole thing needs to synchronize at every time step

·         Revision management (ability to step back in time). Dan: CDO supports full audit

·         Matt: 1st version on server side would be a subset, most functional version connected to the application; can now run Auto Experiment on parallel machines; run isn’t done in the application, i.e., it’s headless; have not created scenario editor for web-based service

·         Can now create scenarios and upload automatically; challenge w/ editors is where to start? Work to create editors in webview is substantial

·         ?Create on client and run on headless workspace

·         Jamie: Ultimate is server-side editor, one possibility is RAP editor

Items from participants

·         Werner: Has multiple people interested in helping w/ script for Portuguese video, will send their email addresses to Jamie; also, will contact Jamie to arrange visit to Almaden on September 23 or 24, perhaps w/ Fabiana; will present, will download zombie model, other STEM scenarios now on web

·         Per Jamie, Arik working on mosquito model, has calls scheduled next week with his professor, Jamie, Israeli colleagues to discuss

·         Tero: Where to post questions? Answer on Newsgroup or, if specifically for developers, on stem-dev

·         Judy: Worked w/ Stefan on tutorial; received notice that Sondra Renly’s paper approved by authors in Mexico (affinity domains, H1N1)

·         Greg: Demo running US graph at level 2 seems slow using either integration or finite difference; how can they create graph for only part of US (DE, PA, NJ)

·         Stefan: Worked w/ team in India to edit out part using coverage attributes, will help Greg’s team to do same; Greg will email Stefan; a tested method

·         Dan: Can also use editor to drag/drop in desired states, can create hierarchy of models, look in the graph stuff, may not be assembled; Jamie will check out, would be great if it works

·         Traci: Will check to see if Lockheed Martin got agreement back from IBM, let Jamie know

·         Mattias: Using plug in w/ EuroGeographics data internally; contacted EuroGeographics to see if can use a subset of their data for level 2 for Europe; maps for Europe are not good, wants this group (or any other) that can contribute to STEM to create simple polygons; Mattias can use only internally w/o legal agreement

·         Stefan: Look at the Automated Experiment material new on wiki; not as detailed as we’d like, but comments welcome
