I would encourage you to check out the existing tools around MQTT: the existing Eclipse plug-in of course [1] but also things like
http://mqtt.io/ or [2] if you’re on a Mac. They can be a great source of ideas of possible features for a simulation and testing tool for MQTT.
By the way, you may have seen another proposal around MQTT that was proposed yesterday by Matteo (CC’d in case he’s not subscribed to the mailing list yet), it’s a similar idea [3] but the tool would be implemented in the browser. You might want to have a look!
