Cedric Brun is also working on a discovery mecanism [0] for the Amalgam 
project.
He generalized the Mylyn code (no references to connectors or modeling 
stuff). The code depends only on EMF core, P2 and Eclipse UI.
He plans to commit the code in few weeks. His idea is to have something 
functional as soon as possible to integrate it in the Helios release.
And then, once the Mylyn code is generic and available into P2, he plans 
to use it.
