[sequoyah-dev] Notice of Intent for Eclipse Sequoyah

Hello Eclipse Pulsar members,

At the last Pulsar technical call, we discussed what is going on with Sequoyah and how it relates to Pulsar.  For those who haven't been attending the calls or the creation reviews for Sequoyah, I'd like to take a moment to express our intent. The proceedings of Sequoyah and Pulsar may impact your development and it's important to understand what we're doing and what you need to do.

Since the creation reviews for Sequoyah, going back to July 2009, we stated that our intent was to move the code components of Pulsar that were in MTJ into Sequoyah.  That time is upon us now.  For Sequoyah, our intent is to graduate as a mature project with the Helios train and the Sequoyah project will contain the Pulsar components.  All other MTJ components will stay in MTJ.  The Pulsar EPP package will refer to the Pulsar components as org.eclipse.sequoyah.*  They will no longer be referenced as org.eclipse.mtj.*  If your project or product relies upon these names, then you will need to change them once you are based upon Helios.

I'm hoping that most projects will not have a major impact by this, but now is the time to have this discussion so we can find ways to mitigate the risks.  If you have concerns, please bring them up. We want to make this transition occur with the minimum impact while giving us a framework for cooperation for the future.

Regards

-E

p.s. On a strictly logistical note, next week is Carnival in Brazil and the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Many of the people who should be on this discussion will be gone next week. So, if replies take a while, please be patient.
