[scout-dev] bugzilla usage and iplog

hello committers

i've just submitted our iplog [1] for the juno release train, cleaning it up did take some time however. 

from this exercise i'm asking you to observe some details that help to make release notes and iplog handling more efficient:

(1) set the iplog flag in the attached patch (and not on the bug)
(2) use the release flag (on the bug, one for indigo, one for juno) to indicate on which scout releases the bugfix has been applied
(3) use the target milestone to indicate the oldest branch the patch is applied*
(4) in the ticket history please say explicitly to which branches the patch has been applied
(5) if a ticket needs to be fixed an a branch, the default is to create a patch and apply it to the requested branch AND the trunk

we have branched eclipse scout 3.0.8 (2012-Jun). this branch is reserved for the juno release train from m7 and rc1 to rc4. only patch stuff that is critical to fix for the juno release.

for bug management the following new milestones and releases have been defined:

milestones:
- 3.8.1: non critical bugfixes for the juno release train that can wait until juno sr1
- 3.9.0: kepler: bugfixes/enhancements that are in the scope of the kepler release

versions:
- 3.8.0: to indicate bugs in eclipse scout 3.8 m7-rc4

remember that for juno we need to have entered all necessary cq’s before february 3^rd (and flagged with the “Juno” keyword) which is 3 weeks from now!

please review existing cq’s and verify that we have declared all that we need for the following topics:

- rap/webgui (runtime + sdk)

- svg-feld (runtime + sdk)

The “Juno” keyword has now been added to IPZilla. It will help Sharon and I plan for the release if you could please make a comment asking us to add the Juno keyword for any requirement that you need for the train. We’re a very small team of 2 and there’s a lot to do. We will prioritize our workload in the coming months using the keyword.

A reminder too that the deadline to identify what you need for Juno is fast approaching. Please enter and place a comment on each CQ you need for Juno by no later than:

*February 3, 2012 (end of M5)*.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Problem:

The Flag enabledAsReadOnly was introduced ca. two years ago. The "true" case is

today standard, also in all other ui reprecentations. As the naming is not

realy clear the idea came up, to remove this flag alltogether. All internal

projects are ok with this.

Solution:

Removed extension point element “enableBehaviour”.

Plug-Ins changed: org.eclipse.scout.rt.ui.swt

Migration: Remove extension point “enableBehaviour” in projects swt-bundle.

we fully agree. bug-specific resolution info that is not trivial should always be provided in the specific bug (what has been forgotten in this case (and now be corrected))

This information should be included on the bug. Splitting information about a bug and its resolution across different communication mechanisms makes it basically impossible for anybody to keep track of what you're doing. By extension, that makes it very difficult for anybody else to participate in your project.

Diversity is good. Do everything you can to increase it.

When editing such a cell, a smartfield-like popup comes up to enter text. If the row already spanned multiple textlines, the popup merges with the cell-editor's dimension so you do not realize it is about a popup.

In Swing, it is further possible to resize that popup (east, south). The default size of that popup can be changed by setting 'WidthInPixel' and 'HeightInPixel' on the String field. That would be done in the 'prepareEditInternal' method of the string column.

in case you haven't read michael meeks recommendations [1] on how to interact with new project developers please do so now!

in case the slides would go away, i've copied my favorites below

it's not only funny but also contains a central insights: 
- the better / kinder we are as a mentor
    the better your mentees will mentor others
- bad responses drive people away
    bad responses encourage other list participants to
    respond badly too → cycle of badness.

this boils down to:

professionalism/kindness of our communication defines our project culture

Hi Stephan

When renaming the fragment bundles, why don’t we use a consistent naming scheme?

Either

tld.vendor.database_and_version.jdbc.fragment

tld.vendor.database.jdbc_version.fragment

Maybe I’m just missing the rule behind the chosen naming scheme?

When adding more and more database engines and versions, a clean naming scheme would be desirable.

The names include the full version if necessary. The full version is now after the name with build-qualifier.

Authentication of Scout web projects (RAP, Wicket) has to be done in the 'client-server' part where the 'org.eclipse.scout.rt.server' bundle

is not accessible. So all security filters have been moved to the 'org.eclipse.scout.http.servletfilter' bundle. Since scout does also provide

datasource security filters JDBC connections have to get accessed from the server and servletfilter bundle. In case of 'org.eclipse.scout.http.servletfilter'

a ClassNotFound exception of the jdbc driver gets thrown.

Resolution:

----------

Moved all jdbc driver jars to separate fragments having the 'system.bundle' as host bundle. Fragments to the system bundle can be accessed from

every bundle in the osgi.

Migration:

----------

Add the corresponding jdbc driver fragment to your product file.

E.g. having the 'com.bsiag.scout.rt.server.jdbc.oracle11g2' bundle you need also 'com.oracle.oracle11g.jdbc_11.2.0.fragment' in your product files.
