Re: [rt-pmc] Vert.x 2.1.0 release

A release record already exists.

Go to:

https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/rt.vertx/releases/2.1.0

If you are not already logged in, click on "Eclipse Login"

Click "Edit".

Expand "Basics"

Change the release date. Note that the new date needs to be May 21st or later (this is the next open review date).

Enter a couple of sentences describing the release in the description field.

I've set the release type to "minor". If you have a different opinion regarding the nature of the release, change it.

I've turned the "deliverables" section in a bullet list for you. Please verify the contents. Note that I consider this field optional when a reasonably good description is provided.

Scroll down to milestones. I figure that the one entry there is bogus. At this point, the milestones are sort of pointless, so just delete it by blanking out the name.

Optionally open the "Review" section and add helpful bits of information there. The PMC may have specific things they want you to add. I leave that as something to work out with them.

Click "Save".

Flip to the "Issues" tab. You'll notice that this is automatically populated with bugs that you've assigned to the target milestone that corresponds to the release.

Send a note to the PMC with the above link requesting approval for the release and corresponding review. Respond to any feedback they provide. They may ask for some additions. Forward the note with their approval to emo@xxxxxxxxxxx

At the bottom of the page, you should see a box labeled "Vert.x committers". Cilck that and  tray of commands will open. Click "Generate IP Log (release)".

Take a quick look at the generated log and convince yourself that it looks generally correct.

If necessary, log in by clicking the link at the bottom (you should already be logged in).

Click "Submit". Enter a note to the effect of "This is for our 2.1 release on <date>". Submit.

I'll let you know if we need anything else from there. I've taken a quick look, and I think that you're basically good-to-go.

Wayne

Wayne,

I think we are ready now to schedule a review. There are a few things I have to click in various places around the Eclipse website (e.g. I can't figure out how to edit the project plan or resubmit the IP log), but if someone can tell me where to click on which page, I can do that.

Hi Tim.

The plan is one bookend of the release cycle [1]. The plan (at least a rudimentary "this is sort of what we're thinking that we'd like to do with the release" plan should be in place at the beginning of release development. The plan can evolve over time. It is a means by which the community can prepare for and participate in the release; it's a basis upon which adopters can form their own release plans.

At the end of the release cycle, you need to complete the review information. This is generally a retrospective "this is what we did" sort of thing with some focus on ensuring that necessary quality exists in the code and that all aspects of open source development have been observed (i.e. the open source rules of engagement).

The review also serves as a checkpoint for the IP process.

So... please do the following:

1) Change the date. It should be in the future. I'll be running a review that concludes on March 5, and then on March 19. You can pick these dates, or some date that follows one of them (the review date can be a few days ahead of the actual release date).

2) Provide review information on the "Review Information" page

3) Submit the project's IP Log for review [2].

4) Get approval on the completed review information from the PMC.

Once this is in place, I can schedule the review.

Note that I just noticed that the IP Log generator isn't functioning for the GitHub-based Vert.x project. I have a fix that I'll deploy shortly. I'll let you know.

HTH,

Wayne

Hell All,

I am new to this game, but would like to release Vert.x 2.1.0 soon. I have created a release plan here:

Thanks
