Re: [rt-pmc] Committer vote for Jordan Dukadinov has been vetoed by the PMC

Thanks. I'm now happy to approve Jordan with this information to hand.

Maybe you can still point me to a page at eclipse.org that makes a list of bugs and/or patched a mandatory content for a proposal for new committer. I dont think that was ever talked about or that it is something the Eclipse foundation demands.

http://www.eclipse.org/projects/ip_log.php?projectid=rt.riena should do the trick, but the patches need their IP log flags set, which they seem to be missing. I was tempted to add the flags, but thought I should leave that to you guys.

Looking at past proposals for Virgo (i.e. Florian Waibel) you also did not include a list of bugzilla entries where Florian added patches. I am not saying that he shouldnt be a committer but you are raising the bar to a higher level and I would have expected that this is something that you do all the time.

Guilty as charged. That may be the case where I was picked up (albeit via email rather than veto!). I have tried to do better since then, e.g. in Miles Parker's nomination where I gave a bunch of commit SHAs.

I saw that included a bug list a number of times for new committers but not always…..

I am pretty sure that the webmaster can not remove a veto but lets see what they have to say…..

No reply yet.

p.s. Veto is your right so dont get me wrong, but it should not be execute lightly and I believe it demands communication about your concerns before you execute it. i think it happens like once a year in all of Eclipse.org.

Believe me, I would not have vetoed if I had had any inkling that it was not reversible. Please accept my apologies for causing you undue hassle and potentially the trouble/delay of re-running the vote.

Glyn

Hi Christian

Yeah, perhaps. But first let me explain my thought process, just so you don't think I acted lightly. I saw the nomination and was just about to vote +1, thinking "yeah, more committers are a good thing for any project" when I realised that the nomination was missing patch information. I've been picked up for not providing sufficient detail in nominations before and I respected it and think I benefitted. So my next thought was to leave the nomination pending. Given the apparent finality of the veto, I wish I had done that. But I also wanted to make sure the some other well-meaning PMC member didn't slip into approving the vote like I nearly did. I assumed, wrongly, that it would be easy to reverse the veto if the nomination turned out to be incomplete. In retrospect, it would have been more productive for me to email my inclination to veto to this mailing list.

So, may I suggest that you post the bugs with patches here (for the record) while I email the web master and see if the veto can be removed? I will then vote +1 with the patch information you supply.

Regards,
Glyn

hi glyn,

wouldnt it have helped if you mailed me before you made that decision ? As far I can see that veto is a final decision and I dont see the vote for committer in my portal. So to get Jordan in (in case you change your mind) would mean to start a new voting…… (which I am hesitant to do)

Hi Christian

No, I didn't look because the information provided gave me the impression that Jordan had only raised bugs and not solved any. It would have really helped if the nomination had listed the bugs with patches in the proposal.

Please could you attach that information to the nomination and then we can hopefully get it approved ASAP, portal permitting.

Glyn

hi glyn,

I agree that this come over a little harsh. Did you look for Jordan's
patches for Riena ? I mean like in query the bugzilla database and couldnt
find any ?

He did supply a number of patches for Riena bugs. Its just that I didnt
list them in the proposal.

a wellŠ..

rt PMC Members,
This automatically generated message marks the PMC's veto of the vote for
Jordan Dukadinov's full Committer status on the rt.riena project.

The PMC's comments were: One of the roles of PMC members is to ensure that
Eclipse projects are run as a meritocracy. The rules for committer
election
state the nomination should "Cite the bugs [the proposed committer has]
fixed via patches". So, although I'm sure Jordan is a great guy, I can
only
veto this election until he has fixed a few bugs which can be cited of
evidence of (a) his merit and (b) the need to make him a committer (since
if he doesn't write code, he can continue as a contributor).

Sorry if this seems a bit harsh. I did hesitate before vetoing. But I hope
everyone will agree that we need to avoid slipping our standards at
Eclipse.

Jordan: please plough in and submit patches for 3-4 bugs and the PMC will
then be able to approve.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your project
lead, PMC member, or the EMO <emo@xxxxxxxxxxx>
