Re: [rt-pmc] Fwd: [osgi_adopters] Invitation to Participate in OSGi Product Spotlight Program

Sounds great Ian.  I suggest the following as a minimum:
- Eclipse (the IDE)
- OSGi starter kit (from RTP)
- Web starter kit (from RTP)

In fact, here are words for the three suggested above.

Eclipse IDE
The Eclipse IDE is the premiere open source tooling platform.  It is used regularly by millions(??) of developers and is the base for hundreds of free and commercial offerings world-wide. OSGi modularity has been one of the key success factors in the creation of this platform and the explosive innovation in the Eclipse tooling ecosystem.

(note, we might want to broaden this to the Eclipse tooling packages put out by EPP)...

OSGi Starter kit
The OSGi Starter Kit is an easy to use configuration of Equinox, the OSGi framework reference implementation, and the Equinox p2 provisioning platform. Together these enable users to start with OSGi technology and incrementally discover, investigate and experiment with OSGi-based technology from a wide variety of vendors.

Web Starter Kit
The Web Starter Kit is a collection of OSGi-based technology from the Eclipse open-source community. As a minimum it includes Equinox, the OSGi framework reference implementation, the Equinox p2 provisioning platform, and Jetty, a high-performance web application server. This combination enables users to get up and running with OSGi-based server-side capabilities quickly and easily. It also forms the basis of many server and embedded systems offerings.

We can associate the Eclipse logo with the IDE and the RT logo with the starter kits.  The starter kit links should go to relevant RTP produced pages.

Ideally the other projects in RT would also spend a few minutes to produce 50-100 words on the role/benefit of OSGi in their offering.  Its not hard.  Took me all of 15 min to do 3...

If any of the Eclipse RT project could like to participate in the OSGi Product Spotlight please let me know.  I can coordinate our response but I will need the content from the projects.

Thanks

Dear OSGi Alliance Member,

The OSGi Alliance would like to showcase your OSGi product on its web site. The OSGi Product Spotlight program will randomly showcase selected member products on its home page to demonstrate the widespread deployment of OSGi technology in diverse markets. It is also an opportunity to highlight your product for the OSGi community.

Showcased products will be linked to a dedicated page on the Alliance site, which will include your brief product description and a link to your product’s web page.

The program is limited to Alliance members. Please review the attached OSGi Product Spotlight Guidelines to determine if your product qualifies for submission. Members may feature up to 15 eligible products in the program.

The initial submission deadline is May 3, 2011.

The Alliance will also create a separate product listing of submitted OSGi products for its web site to further illustrate the breadth of OSGi deployment. This list can include members’ customer and partner products that feature “OSGi technology inside,” as well as member products that exceed the 15-product maximum or products that do not promote OSGi technology explicitly. The product listing will not include product descriptions. Only member product listings can be hyperlinked to member product pages.

Please participate in this exciting opportunity to demonstrate your work with OSGi technology.

Sincerely,
Susan Schwarze
Vice President, Marketing
OSGi Alliance
