Re: [riena-dev] Riena and eclipse 4.1 (E4) ?
|
Hi Christian,
Actually I'm evaluating Riena for now.
I have a old system (desktop with a web backoffice) that needs to be
rewritten. So I will start in couple of weeks a POC to build a prototype
where I want to combine some modular technologies.
I already choose to use OSGi, EMF + Xtext, JBPM/Drools. And now I'm
evaluating techs that will complement those, as CDO, Riena, Redview for
desktop and RedVaadin, RAP, Wicket for web.
I did some experiments on 4.1 RCP last weekend and I really liked the
new e4 UI and concepts (it seems to have a lower learning curve compared
with current RCP). So because that I made my questions...
And was good to know that Riena team is already involved with e4.
I will try to understand a little more about Riena features and new E4
features next couple of weeks and I comeback to let you know if will be
possible to help you with this evolution.
thanks a lot.
cheers
Cristiano

Hi Cristiano,
that is an interesting question. Actually we have been involved in e4 since day one and always had an open eye on what is going on there. To investigate the relationship ourselves we (internally) built a Riena prototype that uses the new workbench model of e4 and we replaced our own Assembly driven navigation model with it. That actually worked. There we re still some rendering issues left but conceptionally it works great.
We also evaluated XWT as views for Riena MVC implementation. We got it to run. There are still some rough edges in this prototyp as well.....
Does any of that interest you ? Are you already using Riena and want to try it with e4 ? Tell us what your goal here is.....
thanks

Hi,
I would like to hear about how will be the future relation of Riena with
the eclipse 4.1 and E4 xwt new User interface.
Is there a plan for it ? will be possible to port applications built
with Riena 3.0?
thanks
Cristiano
