Re: [riena-dev] GIT for Riena (committer vote)

My personal vote for "Riena on GIT" is +1. But thats only me. While I fully agree on the points that you bring up Wayne, I also like the committers to fully endorse a move to GIT.

And moving to GIT is not for free. You have to get use to a new or changed workflow for things, different tooling. While we all know how to deal with conflicts in CVS it is different in GIT or compare of files and so on. And you have to modify your build process.

I have been using GIT outside of Eclipse with a number of tools(multiple versions of GITX, SmartGit, command line) and feel quite comfortable even without EGIT. However I made the experience in the past that if not everybody endorse and supports the move it wont work well.

So I will record the votes for now and encourage everyone to speak up and I will ask for a vote again in July when Indigo is out.

Should we move to Git, should we postphone it for another year (or some time). There is no urgency to move to Git, but as I currently see that some committers in Riena are working on several topics at the same time, it would certainly help them and make things easier for them if they could easily switch between topic branches for example.
