Re: AW: [riena-dev] Ridgets

Hi Scott,

1) as carsten wrote, Ridgets are an abstraction from the Widget of the used UI-Toolkit and they offer additional functionality like marker support and they offer easy access to databinding as well as support for validation of widgets and conversion (from widget to model). so its just way more than databinding by itself

2) They are part of Riena because they are part of the different "process-orientiented user-interface" as noted here http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/riena/

Hi Scott,

sorry to disappoint you but "Ridget" just stands for "Riena Widget". There is nothing remote about them, they only exist on the client.

OK. But if so, it would be useful to know:
1) How do Ridgets differ from the Platform databinding framework?
2) Why then are they associated with the Riena project (which is described as "The Riena platform will be the foundation for building multi-tier enterprise client/server applications")?
