Re: [rdf4j-dev] RDF4J timeline

Hi Metthew,

Thanks Matthew :)

We stop development on the previous major version once the next is released. I don't think we have ever backported any features, but we have backported bug fixes and security fixes a few times when someone in the community really really needed it.

Cheers,
Håvard

Hi Håvard,

Congrats on the imminent release.  Can you give some guidance to what will happen to the 4.x branch/development for those of us not ready to upgrade to 5.x (or want to wait til 5.1? :-)?  Will fixes still occur on this 4.x version for some period of time?

thx, matt

Hi Everyone!

Thought I would update everyone on the timeline of RDF4J 5.0.0.

At the moment I don’t have any more features I’m planning to add. I’m currently waiting on Ontotext for some feedback on my integration work with them before I can say that I’m sure that nothing else needs to be included.

The next milestone will be our last. I hope to have it out fairly soon. After that I’m going to merge the develop branch into the main branch to get ready for release. Typically we follow up with a release 2-3 weeks after the final milestone, during which time we will have a feature freeze to make sure we don’t inadvertently break anything. That is also a good period to work on the release notes, update documentation and run benchmarks.

So to summarise:
  • Milestone 3 is coming soon
  • Then feature freeze for 2-3 weeks
  • Followed by release of RDF4 5.0.0
Cheers,
Håvard
