Re: [ptp-user] Need help about setting up and debugging!

Clement,

I'm working with Fabio directly to solve the problem. I have an idea of what it might be, but I still have a few more things to try. I'll get back to you if I get stuck.

Thanks,

Greg

Sorry for the late reply. Can you try to put "--debug" debug argument in menu "Window->Preferences->PTP->Debug->SDM->Extra SDM arguments"? Run again and send me your console debug output. Thanks.

 Hi all!
Seems to go better now....I made some cleanup in my workspace
(completely erased .medatada folder) and executed eclipse -clean
 option.
Now the debugger seems not to return any error when launcing!
 But, still strange things happen!
When launched, one second later all the process exit (with the
"nornal exit" icon), ad only the frontend node remains active.
It's strange, because I noticed that when start I debugging my
program on N nodes, I can see the sdm,gdb and orte processes
running on N+1 processors, while I can't see the program itself,
because it closed as soon the debug started.
Maybe it's something related to the allocation of processes...any
 idea?
      thanks,
 Fabio

First, thank you all guys for trying to help me!
This issue is more and more becoming a nightmare!!! Now I
removed the old GDB, and I've installed the latest
         version: 6.8.
And still there's no way to get the parallel debugging work!!!
I've installed the new GDB in a folder that is shared
between all the nodes. I added the path to the binaries to
my $PATH environment variable, whenever I access each node
(via ssh or rsh) the environment variable is passed
through, so on the node the gdb binary is accessible.
BTW, I also updated the "path to the backend debugger"
field of the SDM debugger preferences.
The previous Error Message ("BFD: myprog: don't know how
to handle OS specific section `.gnu.hash' [0x6ffffff6]")
         no longer appears.
So I guess you were right about the version of gdb...
However, the Problem Occurred window raise up as soon as I
lunch the debugging, reporting the generic message:
"Handling Debug Event (time, etc etc...)" and nothing in
         the details.
When I go to see what's up in the terminal, the following
         appeared:

         CDT version: 4.0.3.200802251018

               Hello Fabio,

the man page LD(1) says the following:
               --hash-style=style
Set the type of linker's hash table(s). style can be
               either "sysv"
for classic ELF ".hash" section, "gnu" for new style GNU
".gnu.hash" section or "both" for both the classic
               ELF ".hash" and
new style GNU ".gnu.hash" hash tables. The default
               is "sysv".

Maybe changing the style helps. Furthermore I have
               found this:_
               __http://code.linuxonly.nl/code/gnuhash.html_

There is a Debian bug report about that problem too.
               There it is suggested to
               upgrade gdb._
