[ptp-user] MPICH2 setup question

I am helping a UK student use PTP with MPICH2 on Fedora

trying to start the resource manager, in the terminal window we see:
MPICH2@Local: Could not locate MPICH2 installation.  Please check your
PATH.

His path includes /usr/local/mpich-1.2.5/bin   which includes mpicc, etc
What else does he need in his PATH?
