Re: [polarsys-iwg] Polarsys IDE - Eclipse version

Thanks to the backward compatibility layer, plugins are running unmodified on top of Kepler.

Do you have any specific plugins that are causing you problems?

Also if a Juno based version is available would you expect it to run the add ons from the Kepler or their Juno counter parts?

Subject: [polarsys-iwg] Polarsys IDE - Eclipse version

Hello,

I’m aware that a first version of Polarsys IDE 0.7 will be available soon, and this is very good news.

This release will be based on Eclipse Kepler 4.3.

My question is, will Polarsys provide a version based on the last 3.x versions (3.8.2) including most of its components that remains compatible with 3.x versions?

I think this will raise several questions, like for example :

·         What is the motivation for this? Is it useful, needed, or a complete waste of time?

·         Is it possible? Or even allowed by the IW rules?

·         Is this the responsibility of Polarsys or more the responsibility of another Eclipse WG like http://wiki.eclipse.org/LTS?

·         Will this be confusing?

·         Anything else?

My own opinion on the subject is that it could be useful, as I think not every Eclipse application has already made the jump to 4.x versions, and it could help a larger adoption of Polarsys IDE.

I may be totally wrong, but at least it should be discussed!

Best Regards,

Matthieu HELLEBOID
