[platform-vcm-dev] Proxy connection to SCM ?

Update/Manager has to provide proxy connection for update. (see bug 19258)
and we have a plugin that manages proxy connection.
the question is :  (ok are)
1) what is the underlying protocol used by cvs?
2) will the plugin we have work for CVS connection (socks etc.) or will you
have to develop one ?
