Re: [platform-vcm-dev] VCM plugin for StarTeam

"Our plan is to have the VCM 2.0 design closed off by end of year, and an
initial cut of our new CVS adapter written for
VCM 2.0 in that same time frame. We are eager to work with repository
vendors in the context of the Eclipse Project
at eclipse.org in that same time frame, in order to validate our design,
and to ensure that there will be first class integrations
from the major vendors for the release of Eclipse 2.0."

So I guess the word is: be patient, and there will soon be a much better
API for you to work with.

I read on the VCM page that the goal is to have CVS + 2 additional providers ready by the end of the year. I suspect that one of the two additional ones will be ClearCase. I would like to propose StarTeam as the second. And I don't know if StarBase is going to participate themselves in this, but otherwise I will. The company where I work standardized on StarTeam and we also have the StarTeam SDK. This SDK includes a full Java library to all the features of StarTeam, so an Eclipse integration should be easily done. No native code has to be written at all.

I don't know about the licensing and distribution terms of the StarTeam Java library. I'll figure this one out.

BTW, if I would start on this one, what build of the R2.0 stream should I use? Stable, nightly or integration build? Can I use the 1.0 version to develop and a 2.0 build to test my code against?

You may interpret this message as an official request to the PMC for the creation of a StarTeam VCM sub project.
