Re: [platform-ui-dev] Minutes of the Platform Summit held at EclipseCon Europe 2016

Hi,

> regarding "Any hints for modern controls lacking in SWT?" point

I am also interested in this topic. It would be awesome for example if we could use the Ribbon control [1]. I remember that Alexander mentioned the possibility to train some people a few years ago. Is this still something that you want to do?

As a sidenote, Steve Northover is also back on the mothership. Did someone already dare to contact him about new controls?

Cheers,

Wim

there is relatively new patch for Bug 443250 - Support modern native directory dialog (https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/c/84162/),
which i think would really help users experience on windows (both IDE and RCP usage).

Patch is for review and then still to fix any comments found.

But maybe after review it could be included still in some 4.7 milestone build (maybe enabled by some 'experimental' property if needed) for those who would be willing to try it?
(to test on different variations of windows, locales, JVMs...)?

It would also fix Bug 494331 - Workspace Launcher's "Browse" dialog is 10 years out-of-date, which is often first thing our users use after eclipse startup.

Hello,

We held a platform summit while in Ludwigsburg for EclipseCon Europe on October 24th, 2016. There we held wide ranging discussions about the platform and its various components.

I wrote down the minutes of this meeting and put them on the wiki at https://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform/summitece2016 (see UPDATE section)
