Re: [platform-ui-dev] Enhanced extensibility for the default text editor in Eclipse

Sure, the question would be whether the extensions could be reused as services in other contexts or if they are only usable in the given context (which might be the case here of course) and whether the text framework should be tightly coupled to Equinox as OSGi framework as only supporter of extension points.

If these facts doesn't matter there is really no big difference between the two.

Do you have an enhancement request for that? If not, can you please create one?
There's a family:
* https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=496115
* https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=496117
* https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=496300

If I understood it right, given some 3rd party contribution is there, one would get some basic "syntax" support for C++ (for example) in default editor, without installing dedicated CDT tooling?
Concretely, one of the main adopters we have in mind is a support for textmate grammars. It could be implemented in a way that any of the file which has a grammar associated will have some basic edition feature. Contributing basic editor would be only a matter of adding a grammar to some registry, without writing any code.
