Re: [platform-ui-dev] Thank you for Eclipse 4.5 Platform UI work

Thanks Max for the feedback and the beer offer.

June is for me a month with a lot of family events hence I never join any conferences / events in June. See you at EclipseCon Europe.

Cheers, Lars

Ditto!

And Lars - I was about to offer to buy you a beer next week in Toulouse for your efforts on bringing some new life to the platform.

But I don't find you on the speaker list, so I'll do cheer for you instead then ;)

Dear friends of Platform UI,

Eclipse 4.5 is about to be released and I would like to thank everyone for
their contributions. I think Eclipse 4.5 is an awesome release with several
critical bugs fixed and major improvements in usability, performance and
stability. I know we still have several bugs targeted for 4.5.1 but in
general the IDE behaves IMHO much better compared to 4.4.

Looking at the Git change logs I extracted the impressive list of people
which contributed to our repositories (see below). Please let me know if I
missed someone for the official thank you in   .

I think platform UI has proven to be very active, despite the fact that
several key developers moved on in the recent years. It is now also a
community driven project with approx. 70% of the developments done by
people not associated with an Eclipse member company. See
https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/eclipse.platform.ui/who

In this release we onboarded several new committers and I have high hopes
for the Eclipse 4.6 release with all of us committers soon working on full
speed. I am especially proud that we are reviewing community contributions
in Gerrit (in most cases) very fast.

I personally would like to thank Dani Megert for coaching me in my new role
and Brian de Alwis for his support with complex technical problems. Also a
big thanks to Markus Keller for having a critical eye over the quality of
our work.

We should be soon starting to think about the targets for our next release
but that is worth another email.

Thanks again for making Eclipse Platform UI and runtime better and helping
the Eclipse IDE and the Eclipse RCP implementations.

Cheers, Lars
