AFAIK Mylyn already makes their notification framework API (see https://bugs.eclipse.org/177974), so it would be a question of whether they want to move their code to Platform. Mik Kersten would be the first person I'd ask.
I'm currently checking with Jazz folks, but I suspect that the community would want to go with the existing API from Mylyn.

Please keep in in the loop if you follow up with this outside this list.

Do we have any contacts from either Jazz or Mylyn that may be interested in contributing their notifications system to Eclipse?
I'm referring specifically to this ancient proposal:

I'd like to revive it. Without some sort of notification system, there is no good way to display output to the user from asynchronous and background operations, and whatever notification system we use needs to be standardized that way notifications opened by different plugins won't open on top of one another.
Presumably both Jazz and Mylyn would have an interest in having their own notification system become the standard. Do we have contacts from both projects I could follow up with?
