[platform-ui-dev] Question: Keyboard access to menus ("automatic accelerators") in Kepler ?

Hi Platform/UI experts,

Eclipse menus can be driven by Accelerators, eg Alt+F, A for “Save As”.

Accelerators are typically defined by ampersand in the menu label, eg “Save &As” .

Now I seem to find a difference between Eclipse 3 and Eclipse 4 when the accelerator isn’t unique in a menu, or accelerators aren’t defined at all:

-          Eclipse 3.x automatically assigned the first available character in a menu as accelerator

-          Eclipse Kepler doesn’t assign any automatic accelerators

As a result, some menus that were pretty well keyboard-accessible in Eclipse 3, now require using the cursor keys in Eclipse 4 because no automatic accelerator is assigned.

Was that a deliberate change ?

Or is it a missing feature ?

Thanks,

Martin
