Doug,
Platform Text uses it in the extension point and in the code. Since API is
frozen we cannot move to the new API without breaking API i.e. you can only
changes this if the PMC approves all changes that ripple through clients.
However, I do support this because we currently have code introduced in 3.1
which is already deprecated and I would like to get rid of this for 3.1.

This element was marked as experimental in 3.0, and has a complete
replacement
in 3.1. Is it okay to remove the element entirely?
