Title: generic editor save

Code wise is there generic save for files modified in eclipse editors? I'd like to save a resource if its been modified before my operation.

For example
user checks out file
user modifies it in eclipse editor
user check in file (but doesn't save)

I need a way to save the modified file before the check in.
