I have released some changes to the IWorkbenchPage.showView method.

Release Notes:

If a view is opened within a perspective for the first time , it will open
as a fast view, floating view, or embedded view, depending on the user
preference (Workbench > Appearance).  If a view is moved, closed, and
reopened, it will appear in the last position defined by the user.  The
default value for this preference is "fast view" on all platforms.  On
platforms which do not support floating views, the floating preference is
not visible.
