+1, with concerns:

I think this is not a good move for
a few reasons: Code quality inevitably deteriorates when nobody feels responsible
for a component. Platform UI is a prime example for this. The bigger a
project grows, the less developers feel attached to their components, and
the more commits go in without a proper review and without anyone spending
time thinking about the consequences of a change. More and more Platform
UI committers nowadays just seem to be interested in self-promotion and
adding small bloggable features, rather than keeping up the big picture
of a stable and dependable platform. The more components that move into
this mode, the more fragile the whole platform becomes.

However, given that the Platform Text
project is already at the edge of being dysfunctional, and there's little
hope for getting new committers on board that have time to work on this
component, I don't think we really have a choice.

Andrey brought up the discussion to move Platform Text under Platform UI.
The PMC
has looked at this and is OK with the move
if both, the Platform Text and the Platform UI committers agree to the
following: 

- Platform Text committers automatically become Platform UI committers
- Platform UI accepts the additional responsibility for the Platform Text
code base 
- It is expected from both camps that for design discussion original committers
are consulted 
- The current Platform Text lead (me) becomes a co-lead on Platform UI

I hereby ask you to cast your vote for this proposal. We use the same rules
as for committer votes. The vote is open for 7 days.
