Hi,

 I've noticed new revisions package in jface.text. It seems that it 
intend to provide an infrastructure to show an additional version 
control (VCS) info in the editor rulers.

 I wonder why it had to be that restricted and does not provide more 
generic ruler that could be used not only for VCS revisions, but any 
other metadata that plugins may be interested to show in the editor? 
Such info can include code coverage, metrics, etc.
 Visually these rulers can be presented similarly to table columns 
(without a header) and CompositeRuler could provide a generic UI or 
properties page to show/hide registered/initialized rulers.

 I'd appreciate any comments or thoughts on this.

 By the way, I wonder what are the plans to add support for revision 
ruler to CVS plugin?
