I managed to get a small test case that
exhibits the problem, and have posted it as a bug report: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=295483
The voodoo to get the test case to work
was to use a JFace ApplicationWindow - I still think this is an SWT bug
though, and have classified it as such...
Thanks to the hint to the foreground
idle procedure, I can workaround this for the moment.
