Re: [platform-swt-dev] SWT port for Swing!

And without that capability, SWT will remain a tiny part of Java, which would be a shame because the SWT initiative is probably the last best hope for fixing what ails the Java GUI picture.

Do not agree completely, Jim, and this is not a plug for Conga. Really.

Just because Swing, built on top of AWT and Java 2D has failed to realize its early hype is not the fault of the Java graphics engine. It is the fault of the martketing and technology teams implementing Swing. Swing quashed a lot of aspiring Java companies with great GUI ideas and approaches using j.awt.Graphics as the basis for their implementations. These initiatives headed south under the thunder of Swing. Sun, its marketing teams, and its PR engine basically slammed Swing as the standard for GUI development under Java.

I urge all who care about Java to view Swing and SWT as just choices for GUI development. And, yes, there are other choices. Swing nor SWT is right for every GUI application development project.
