Steve, your reply is both unprofessional and unwarranted.  It does, however, outline my point about the "new IBM".  I express both positive and negative remarks, and you ignore the positive and tell me to "go use another toolkit".
 
I apologized for any bad feelings my comments may have caused, gave you kudos on some features I thought were good, and yet you still insist on being combative.
 
This is a very poor example of customer relations.  If this is your idea of dealing with users, then I foresee a very short future for SWT.

Joe, not only did I point you to a document that describes how SWT layout works and why, I fixed the code you posted.
What more do you want?  I suggest you go use another window toolkit that is better designed to meet your needs.
