The plan is to get the 2.0-based version out very soon.
Because you already have 2.0 installed, it would suggest you wait for it; it's the center of our attention these days, and all bugs in it will be dealt with much faster than bugs in 1.2 (which is sort of put to the side by 2.0 for now).

Hi,

The reason the subject line says "gtk 2.0" is I have gtk 2.0 installed on
the system, and from reading the release notes that accompanied eclipse I
understood that if gtk 2.0 was installed it would be used.  On reading it
again I understand that I was wrong.  Anyhow, is there a quick fix for the
problem or should I wait for the next stable or integration build?
