Szymon could reproduce the issue in bug
396553 [1].
And, Dani confirmed "to be able
to update" was required. [2]

So, we'll wrestle once more with pack200
and see if we can get a repo that's better behaved. 

I scheduled the build for 7:30 AM (can
you believe I set an alarm! :) ... 
with any luck, the build itself will
be done by 10:30 and with lots of luck, the tests will finish by approx.
7 PM tonight. 

We can confirm at "update"
works after the build is done (don't need to wait for the tests) so I'd
like to be in  position I could still promote M4 tonight, "after
hours", unless anyone says they want more time to examine the final
build and unit test results.
