Re: [platform-releng-dev] Vote for Committer status for Szymon Brandys was started by Kim Moir

org.eclipse.releng is controlled by an access control list, so that many groups have access to it. Kim, can you open a bug for this with the webmaster so we can figure out what is the best solution here? I don't know if Hudson supports ACLs to allow multiple groups access. I agree adding committers one at a time isn't a good solution.

The reason I started the vote is because the org.eclipse.releng group is owned by eclipse.platform group

kmoir@dev1:/home/data/cvs/eclipse> ls -ld org.eclipse.releng

drwxrwsr-x+ 8 droy eclipse.platform 248 2011-03-29 08:07 org.eclipse.releng

Every committer is supposed to have rights to org.eclipse.releng.  Thus this is the group that I use in Hudson so every committer can see the files in the Hudson jobs.  Szymon didn't have rights to this group. Thus he didn't have rights to see the Hudson job.  I had to add his id explicitly to the job.  I don't want to have to manage individual committer ids for each of the Hudson jobs.  It doesn't scale.  I talked to the webmasters and they said that since the PMC hadn't given him access to the group when the groups were reorganized, I needed to initiate a vote.   If one of the PMC can talk to the webmasters to sort this out given that you don't want a vote, that would be appreciated.

Yes, the vote should be cancelled.

When the PMC cleaned up all the access groups, one of our goals was to
simplify committer set-up so that a new committer only needs to be added
to a single group. If a resource, like e.g. 'org.eclipse.releng' needs to
be accessed by all committers then all groups are granted access to that
resource. The same needs to happen for Hudson i.e. we should not add a new
group for that.

I think I need to clarify this.

I'm not a member of eclipse.platform group, however I can update the
org.eclipse.releng map files.
Looking at committers of eclipse.platform at

http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project_summary.php?projectid=eclipse.platform
the set of people is smaller
than the group of people who can modify maps.

"the platform group is for Ant, Update, legacy and top-level config" and I
do nothing in this area the voting should be cancelled.

The real purpose is access to Hudson@xxxxxxxxxxx. While I was working with
Kim on core.resources failures there,
I was not able to see links, pages to test results etc.

I would suggest to create a separate access group for Hudson and add all
platform committers there.
I think we could use the same group for org.eclipse.releng map files. The
access to the map project is not handled via any group right now AFAIK,
all committers just have access to this project.

Thanks

eclipse.platform Committers,
This automatically generated message signals that Kim Moir has nominated
Szymon Brandys as a Committer on the eclipse.platform project. The reason
given is as follows:

I'd like to nominate Szymon Brandys for the eclipse.platform group.  He
isn't currently a member of this group which means he can't update the
org.eclipse.releng map files for the build.  More commit rights are part
of
a healthy diet.

The vote is being held via the MyFoundation portal: voters *must* use the
portal for the votes to be properly recorded.  The voting will continue
until either all 13 existing Committers have voted or until they have been
given enough time to vote, even if they do not do so (defined as at least
one week). Szymon Brandys must receive at least three +1s and no -1s for a
successful election.

Eligible Committers must cast their votes through their My Foundation
portal page (do NOT just reply to this email; your vote will not be
correctly recorded unless you use the portal):

http://portal.eclipse.org/

The project Committers eligible to vote are:

 John Arthorne
 Bogdan Gheorghe
 DJ Houghton
 Jeff McAffer
 Susan McCourt
 Dani Megert
 Kim Moir
 Andrew Niefer
 Martin Oberhuber
 Michael Rennie
 Paul Webster
 Mike Wilson
 Darin Wright

*NOTE*: Successful elections are left open for a maximum of 120 days to
allow for processing of paperwork.  After that time the election will be
expired, regardless of its current status.  Should papework processing on
the part of the candidate take more time than allowed, a new election will
have to be held.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your project
lead, PMC member, or the EMO <emo@xxxxxxxxxxx>
