Greetings,
Earlier this morning, I got active help working within my plugin.
I used the example given in the Platform Plug-in Developer Guide to launch
the Eclipse Workbench Preferences dialog. When I clicked on my active help
link to open the Preferences dialog for the first time, it worked
perfectly; the Preferences dialog window came to the front (as I would
expect it to), with the main Eclipse Workbench window behind the
Preferences dialog, and the Help Perspective behind the Eclipse Workbench
window.
However, when I returned to the same page sometime later (without shutting
down Eclipse in between), I clicked on the active help link again (hoping
to see the Preferences dialog once more) but nothing seemed to happen. It
was only when I selected the "Resource - Eclipse Platform" tab on my
Windows application bar that I discovered that the Preferences dialog had
opened, but in the background (hidden behind my Help perspective), and
certainly not obvious to the user.
This is unfortunate because when I emulated a frustrated user and started
clicking frantically on the active help link in an attempt to get the
Preferences dialog to open, I discovered that my Eclipse Workbench had
frozen - leaving the Help perspective functioning perfectly (apart from the
odd behaviour of the active help link). This left me with the only one
option; I had to resort to the three fingered salute to kill Eclipse from
the Windows Task Manager.
Has anybody else encountered this problem? Can anything be done to fix
it/work around it?
I'm running the GM 3 driver on Windows NT4 Workstation.
Thanks in advance...
Steve
